About Manik (Ruby)

The Ruby gemstone is known by many names. It is commonly referred to as Manikya or Manak. In English, it is known as the Ruby. In ancient times, it was simply called LAL. It is a completely transparent gemstone. Although the Ruby is less hard than the Diamond in terms of hardness, it possesses greater hardness compared to many other gemstones.
Since very ancient times, the Ruby has frequently been mentioned alongside Pearls and Corals as one of the most significant gemstones. In the Indian context, references dating back to the Vedic period mention the existence of a Mani (gem) situated on the head of a serpent. It is believed that this Mani was, in reality, a Ruby. The true mystery surrounding this Snake Gem (Sarpa Mani) remains unclear to this day. In folklore and the stories told by grandmothers, frequent mention is made of a precious object referred to as LAL. This object is, in fact, the Ruby; in colloquial language, the Ruby has traditionally been known as LAL. Some ancient tales recount instances where a king, in a moment of great delight, bestowed a Lal as a royal gift. In antiquity, anyone in possession of a LAL was considered a wealthy individual. Even in those times, the Ruby—or LAL — was considered more valuable than gold itself, much as it remains in the modern era.

Who Can Wear It?

Additionally, individuals with the Ascendants of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius should also wear a Ruby.
