Pearl is worn to enhance the influence of the Moon's rays. It is an extremely cooling gemstone. It is generally recommended to wear this gemstone in cases of any kind of mental distress. Scholars opine that the pearl should be worn to attain peace of mind. This is indeed accurate; those who wear a pearl often find their mental faculties becoming superior to those of others. Furthermore, a unique characteristic of the pearl is that it does not appear to have any adverse side effects. This is because the Moon is renowned for the fact that, even if it rules an inauspicious house in a birth chart (horoscope), it typically does not yield negative results. Even if the Moon's placement in your horoscope is not favorable, you may still wear a pearl, as you are certain to benefit from its inherent natural properties. The pearl serves as the representative gemstone of the Moon. Additionally, individuals suffering from mental stress or those prone to excessive anger may also wear a pearl. However, under any circumstances, one should always have their horoscope analyzed before deciding to wear a pearl.
Among the nine principal gemstones (*Navaratnas*), two—the pearl and the red coral—are organic gemstones; that is to say, they are not mineral stones. All other gemstones are mineral-based stones. The pearl is formed within the body of a marine organism known as an oyster (or mollusk). Consequently, the pearl is an inherently cooling gemstone, and due to its association with the Moon, it also helps regulate mental faculties. Therefore, individuals who experience frequent bouts of anger stemming from mental stress should certainly wear a pearl, taking into account their age and constitution.
Method and Timing for Wearing a Pearl
- The pearl is typically worn on the smallest finger (the little finger).
- The pearl should always be worn at night so that the Moon serves as a celestial witness to the act.
- A pearl may be worn on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th, or 13th day (Panchang Tithi) of the waxing phase of the Moon (Shukla Paksha), or on the Full Moon day (Purnima). If a specific auspicious time (Muhurat) cannot be found, a pearl may also be worn on any Full Moon day or on any Monday. It is also considered auspicious to wear a pearl during the Rohini, Hasta or Shravana Nakshatras.
- The pearl should always be set in silver metal.
- Before wearing a pearl, it should be consecrated (energized) by reciting the sacred mantras dedicated to the Moon 11,000 times.
- For individuals over the age of 18, the Pearl gemstone should not weigh less than 8 carats.
- If, in the horoscope, the Moon acts as the Lord of the Ascendant (Lagna), the Lord of the Fifth House, or the Lord of the Ninth House, one should wear a Pearl of approximately 11 carats, set in a bracelet or locket containing about 33 grams of silver.
- Before wearing the Pearl gemstone, it should be consecrated (energized) by chanting the Beej Mantras associated with the Moon.
